TERRORISTS ATTACK PORT OF PALM BEACH (BUT IT’S ONLY A DRILL)

If you’re near the Port of Palm Beach Monday or Tuesday, you may notice a lot of police activity as ahomegrown violent extremist group initiates an attack at four locations at the port. But there’s no need
to worry  this is a drill to test the response of the region’s specialty teams from three counties as part ofOperation Guardian, coordinated by the Southeast Regional Domestic Security Task Force (RDSTF).
The Port of Palm Beach will host the exercise, which includes active shooter attacks and hostage-takingonboard a freighter, bus and on two floors of a building. There will also be a beach assault at PeanutIsland Park and field force teams will be faced with violent protestor activities. More than 300participants will be involved in Operation Guardian. The specialty teams (SWAT, bomb squad, fieldforce and forensics) are from both the Broward and Palm Beach County sheriff’s offices, Miami-DadePolice Department, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Riviera Beachand West Palm Beach police departments. On Tuesday, Operation Guardian continues with the
region’s forensics teams (CSI) and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD, or bomb squad) technicians
participating in additional scenarios at the port.
Operation Guardian furthers the ability of the RDSTF regional teams to implement training programsand improve all-hazards response capabilities to prevent, protect, respond and recover from suchevents.
