Did you know that the Grand Canyon is bigger than the state of Rhode Island? Or that it’s full of hidden caves, or that it takes 5 hours to drive from rim to rim?

For nearly a century, Grand Canyon National Park has been inspiring awe. First protected in 1893 as a reserve and later as a national monument, it wasn’t until February 26, 1919, that the Grand Canyon became a national park. As we celebrate nearly 100 years of protecting this special place, test your knowledge with 13 little-known facts about this Arizona icon.

2017 ArtiGras Fine Arts Festival Impacts Palm Beach North Community

Philippe Jeck, Honorary Chair of ArtiGras, Best of Show winner Michael Paul Cole, Beth Kigel, President & CEO of the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce, and Severe Weather Expert at WPBF Mike Lyons.
The warm temperatures and sunny skies over the holiday weekend brought in record crowds to this year’s ArtiGras Fine Arts Festival, the premier fine arts festival of the Palm Beaches. Produced by the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce and presented by Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, the 32nd edition of ArtiGras was enjoyed in Palm Beach North, Florida’s Prosperity Coast, by both patrons and the 300 participating artists.
“We at the Chamber enjoy creating events that benefit our whole community. ArtiGras brings in artists and patrons from all over the country who stay in our local hotels, eat at our local restaurants, and buy gas at our local stations,” said Beth Kigel, President and CEO of the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce. “In addition, our residents get to enjoy a first-class top-50 fine arts festival in their own backyard.”
During the festival, artist Michael Paul Cole from Hannibal, Mo., won Best in Show for his work in glass, while 66 finalists in the Youth Art Competition took home ribbons and prizes for their original works of art. Aaliyah Moore from Palm Beach Central High School took home best of show for high school entries, while Aidan Skolnick from Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Academy was the middle school honoree for best of show. Ethan Holiday from The Batt School took home best of show for elementary school student submissions.
“I’m really honored to be named best of show. It’s wonderful and I’m in total shock,” said Cole, who studied chemical engineering in college but became a professional photographer thirty-two years ago.

Palm Beach North Industry Insight: Ideabar

“In the 1950s, Pratt & Whitney came to Jupiter, opening the Florida Research and Development Center.”
Palm Beach North: The brand-building tradition continues
Throughout its illustrious history, the northern region of Palm Beach County has been home to some of the world’s most iconic brands – ones whose backgrounds and values were conveyed by the simple mention of their names.
If you were an “early settler” – say, in the 1920s – and lived in a home designed by Addison Mizner, then you were experiencing the one-of-a-kind luxury of the Mediterranean Revival in architecture. In the 1950s, Pratt & Whitney came to Jupiter, opening the Florida Research and Development Center. Its (literally) life-or-death mission: develop state-of-the-art military and rocket engines. It’s no overstatement to say the patriotic work done at Pratt & Whitney ultimately helped the U.S. win both the Space Race and the Cold War.
And in today’s business climate, where Palm Beach North is successfully conveying that this region is truly Florida’s Prosperity Coast, the proud tradition continues. Many Palm Beach North businesses are growing their brands with an assist from Ideabar – a Cox Media Group-owned advertising/multimedia marketing agency located within The Palm Beach Post.
For instance, with Roger Dean Stadium, Ideabar got the word out that baseball games are only one aspect of the facility’s appeal. It can also host special events, corporate outings and virtually any other gathering a client can imagine. For the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, Ideabar has conveyed to an international audience that our area is the place to be for any and all sporting competitions – as well as athletic recreation. Other clients, such as Downtown Abacoa and Palm Beach State College, have also benefited from their association with Ideabar in the guise of increased ROI and brand identity.
